The Association of European Competition Law Judges Introduction: the Role and Purpose of the Association
The Association of European Competition Law Judges was created in Luxembourg in September 2002 by a founding group of judges representing each of the then fifteen Member States of the European Union, with the participation of judges from the European Court of Justice, the Court of First Instance, and from the EFTA Court.
The purpose of the Association is to provide a forum for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of competition law amongst the judiciary across the European Union. It is hoped that this exchange will promote a coherency and consistency of approach, particularly in the context of the modernisation of the application of Articles 101 and 102 under Regulation 1/2003 of 16 December 2002.
The work of the Association
The main focus of the Association is the holding of conferences and training seminars, addressing issues which are of concern to judges and creating opportunities to share experiences and to discuss concerns.
Membership of the Association
Membership of the Association is available to judges or persons acting in a judicial capacity who are concerned with the application of competition law, whether in a specialist context or as part of general domestic law. The current yearly fee is €50 and is payable when attending the annual conference of the Association.
